Moist Red-Velvet Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 cups (400g) sugar
- 3 tbsp (23g) cocoa powder
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp (10ml) vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (120ml) hot coffee
- 1 cup (236 ml) vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup (61g) sour cream
- 3/4 cup (180ml) buttermilk
- 1 tsp (5ml) white vinegar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp lemon Zest
- 1 tsp (5ml) gel red food coloring
Steps:
1. Preheat Oven:
- Begin by preheating your oven to 325°F (165°C). Prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by adding butter and flour. Put a parchment paper in the bottom.
2. Prepare Dry Ingredients:
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, and 1 tsp of salt. Whisk the ingredients together until well combined, then set aside.
3. Combine Wet Ingredients:
- In a separate large bowl, mix together the sugar and vegetable oil until well combined.
- In a seperate bowl ,whisk the eggs, buttermilk, vanilla extract, lemon zest, sour cream and gel red food coloring. Stir until all ingredients are fully incorporated.Gradually pour in hot coffee and white vinegar, stirring continuously.
- Add the egg batter to oil mixture.
4. Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients:
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing after each addition until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should be thin.
5. Bake:
- Evenly divide the batter between the prepared cake pans.
- Place the pans in the preheated oven and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out with moist crumbs clinging to it.
6. Frost and Serve:
- Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pans.
- Once cooled, Frost them with cream cheese frosting.
